Conventional production, reliant on coal and coke, generates around 2.6 tonnes of CO₂ for every tonne of steel, making the sector responsible for roughly 9% of global emissions.
Our solution is a vertically integrated, low-cost steel value chain that redefines how steel can be produced. By replacing coal and coke with clean hydrogen, we aim to drastically reduce CO₂ emissions while maintaining the strength and reliability that make steel indispensable.

Demand for low-CO₂ steel in Europe is set to surge to 30–40 million tonnes by 2030 and climbing towards 100 million tonnes by 2050. We are determined to keep up.

Scaling up
BGS is designed to grow. Through leveraging proven technologies, efficient plant configurations, an experienced management team, and strong strategic partners, we will scale-up our green and cost-efficient operations.
Our integrated business model and continual supply of raw materials will establish a solid foundation for expansion. We plan to roll out additional steel plants across Europe, replicating a proven, scalable platform.
Transformative CO₂ Impact
Our approach targets emissions reductions across Scopes 1–3, addressing the entire value chain. With annual production of 2.5 million tonnes of ultra-low CO₂ steel, BGS will cut close to 6 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year – more than a year’s worth of passenger flights between London and New York.
